Barry Bates

Barry is the newest member of the Hoots. He has been playing drums and singing for very long time. Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Barry picked up the sticks when he was 8, and has been playing ever since.   While in Austin, during the late 80’s and 90’s, he was an active part of that amazing music scene;  “I’ve been very fortunate and blessed to have been in Austin during that time, meet some amazing artists and hone my skills...”

Experienced in everything from jazz to punk, country to rock, he’s been able to perform and record with a diverse set of artists over the years.    

As a member of “the 14ers” based out of Ft. Collins, CO, Barry has shared the stage with the likes of “the Jayhawks,” “Rusted Root,” “ALO” and many others. His diverse musical background and melodic way of approaching the drum kit, provides a solid foundation to the Hoots music.

“I’m really excited to be part of this group. Since the day we met, I felt a connection with these guys. (It might have been a touch of indigestion, but I think it was more of a musical connection.)”
